K²O’s season opens with a powerful meditation on freedom, dignity, and the ideals that bind a nation together.

Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man rises with elemental grandeur, followed by the resilience, hope, and unmistakable American voice of William Grant Still’s Afro-American Symphony. And who better than Sean K. Ellis, wrongly convicted due to a police cover-up and jailed for 21 years before winning his freedom, to narrate Copland’s stirring portrait of a champion of freedom and justice? Beethoven’s buoyant symphony, with its infectious rhythm and the irrepressible energy of the human spirit, concludes the evening.

Most of our performances take place at Sanders Theatre (45 Quincy Street, Room 027, Cambridge, MA 02138). Sanders Theatre is managed by Memorial Hall/Lowell Hall Complex at Harvard University.
