Since 2018, we have connected the diverse science and technology community of Cambridge and Boston through music while supporting causes we care about related to healthcare and STEM education. This is made possible through the generous gifts of many individuals and organizations to whom we are very grateful.

    Below you will find our Gift Acceptance Policy. The purpose of a Gift Acceptance Policy is to ensure all donors, staff & Board Members understand and carry out the best practices for soliciting & accepting the charitable contributions that enable our work.

    Kendall Square Orchestra solicits and accepts gifts that are consistent with its mission and that support its core programs, as well as special projects.

    Kendall Square Orchestra urges all prospective donors to seek the assistance of personal legal and financial advisors in matters relating to their gifts, including the resulting tax and estate planning consequences.

    Donations and other forms of support will generally be accepted from individuals, partnerships, corporations, foundations, government agencies, or other entities, subject to considerations of the following factors:

    Values — Will the acceptance of the gift compromise any of the core values of Kendall Square Orchestra?

    Compatibility — Is there compatibility between the intent of the donor and Kendall Square Orchestra’s use of the gift?

    Public Relationships — Will acceptance of the gift damage the reputation of Kendall Square Orchestra?

    Primary Benefit — Does the gift primarily benefit Kendall Square Orchestra versus the donor?

    Consistency — Is acceptance of the gift consistent with prior practice?

    Form of Gift — Is the gift offered in a form that Kendall Square Orchestra can use without incurring substantial expense or difficulty?

    Effect on Future Giving — Will the gift encourage or discourage future gifts?

    Amount — The decision to accept any major gifts will be made by the Executive Committee of the Board. The primary consideration will be the impact of the gift on Kendall Square Orchestra.

    Political or Religious Affiliation —Kendall Square Orchestra does not accept gifts from corporations with a mission that is primarily religious or political in nature, or with a publicly stated affiliation towards a specific religious or political standpoint.

    Use of Legal Counsel

    Kendall Square Orchestra will seek the advice of legal counsel in matters relating to acceptance of gifts when appropriate. Review by counsel is recommended for:

    Gifts requiring Kendall Square Orchestra to assume financial or other obligations.

    Transactions with potential conflicts of interest.

    Gifts of Real Property, Personal Property or Securities.

What could your tax-deductible gift do in 2023?

  • Give a voice to local charities working to transform the local healthcare landscape through our annual Symphony for Science concert at Symphony Hall. Since 2019, Kendall Square Orchestra has raised over $125,000 to support local organizations.

  • Enrich the lives of our musicians and help us continue to perform music by composers that represent the diverse and unique communities in Cambridge and Boston. Our musicians from over 50 corporate, academic, and professional institutions in Kendall Square and the surrounding areas.

  • Help us use music as an innovative model for community building and teamwork, all in service of the common good.
